SIL - safety integrity level
- SIEMAG TECBERG has been working on the functional safety (SIL = Safety Integrity Level to IEC 61508) of its brakes (types STN + 1 and SB1-2) and on its own winder control system for years.
- The brake system is the most important element to stop a winder safely and reliably. The stop signal from the winder control system must be executed by the braking system. In cases of SIL assessment of the winder control system, the braking system should therefore also be assessed for SIL.
- In 2014 a SIL certification for winders was conducted at Tahmoor, Whenan and Cobar (all in Australia), resulting in a SIL 2 level.
- Also STN + 1 SIL assessments were conducted for the multi-channel brake by third parties (winders for Northparks, Australia, and Mosaic, Canada, i.e. the design of a multi-channel hydraulic system does not automatically qualify it for a higher SIL level.
- SIEMAG TECBERG BE 100 brake elements were assessed as safety-relevant components in 2014, resulting in a SIL 2 level. Use in SIL 3 applications is possible.
- An SB1 braking system, together with the SIEMAG TECBERG winder control system is currently in the end phase of a SIL 3 certification process. Delivery to European customers are scheduled for 2019.
In short
SIEMAG TECBERG has many years of experience in the development and certification of functional safety (SIL) on its different braking systems and winding machine control systems. That is why SIEMAG TECBERG offers the latest braking technology with implemented sustained safety technology to an international SIL standard.
